I've known Mary since I was 16. My best friend went to a beach camp with her growing up, and when she visited in Virginia we became friends immediately. We've spent time together in Washington DC, Atlanta, St Louis and Asheville. When we were 19, we traveled in Europe together, spending the first week in Mary's 11'x11' apartment in Paris. Four of us like sardines in that tiny apartment.
Our adventures have always been beautiful, meaningful and not without a little mischief.
When I visited Albert and Mary's house, we played board games. I admired Albert's graphic novel collection and concert posters. They even had a jukebox, which Albert said he'd been collecting 45's for years before actually having the box. Mary's favorite song on it was Laura Marling's rendition of the Jackson C Frank song "Blues Run the Game".
Albert and Mary chose to get married at Brahma Ridge in Asheville, North Carolina. Guests could camp or stay in nearby cabins, so it felt like a cozy weekend retreat. During my best friend's toast, she said Mary had never seemed more Mary than that day, and I couldn't believe how true it was.
There was square dancing and there were donuts. A glorious day.
