Once upon a time, I drove to West Virginia just to take photos of Rachel and Jeff. We made these dreamy images. From New River Gorge to the Canaan Valley, this fall I drove to West Virginia again to photograph Rachel and Jeff's wedding. First weekend of October, go to West Virginia. The colors! Were insane.
For this Canaan wedding, the couple rented a cabin within the Canaan Valley Resort State Park. A group of large cabins and homes surrounded a beautiful lake, set against the mountains. Soft pathways weaved through nearby fields. All weekend, the wedding party stayed in a cabin and spent afternoons wandering around the lake. Truly a magical, serene place to have a wedding.
Beautiful flowers for this wedding by West Virjeni.
Canaan Valley Resort State Park
The Canaan valley state resort park is located on a plateau in Davis, West Virginia. You can choose to camp, stay in a cabin or lodge while you're there. Outdoor activities are practiced year round as the area is perfect for swimming, skiing, hiking, fishing, even golf.
In 1963 the land was donated by a private owner to become public land, which is awesome. The first ski resort in West Virginia was opened within the grounds on Weiss Knob, elevation 4,420 feet.
Enjoy trails, restaurants and nearby natural wonders. Canaan Valley is an amazing place to host a wedding!
