When Emily contacted me to photograph her new collection, I looked thru her website and immediately was so excited. Emily is a fashion designer whose work is made up of repurposed, reworked and restructured old fabrics. She is from Richmond, Kentucky and her family history informs much of her aesthetic as well. Her clothes celebrate the hand craft of the artist with visible seams. She hand weaves basket accessories as part of her signature.
Looking through her inspiration clippings, previous collections and Instagram was inspiring and exciting for me as a photographer. Model Kwaneshia Lewis was incredible to photograph.
The house we shot this collection in is located behind a gas station on a main street in Richmond. According to the owner, the house has a history as a nursing home. He plans to turn it into a bed and breakfast and event space, so I hope to photograph some weddings here in a few years.
I am in love with this series and look forward to seeing more work from Emily in the future.
