On September 23, a truck rolled off a hill and crashed onto interstate I-40. Sara was on her way to her wedding, in a vehicle one car away. Nothing like a near death experience to make you appreciate the most important day of your life, right?
Sara and Ben had one of their first dates at the 5 Spot. It was New Year’s Eve and Chubby and the Dots performed. When they decided to get married they chose to have them as the wedding band. This was one of many thoughtful, sentimental choices that came together to create this beautiful day.
Their dog, Dexter, walked down the aisle with Ben and stood with the couple throughout the ceremony. No bridal party, just immediate family and the pup.
This wedding featured a few of my favorite vendors
I remember meeting with Sara and Ben and finding out they were getting married at The Cordelle. Nerd that I am, I had researched Lexington wedding venues before I moved here, and it was on my dream list of venues to photograph. To get to shoot there my first year working here was incredibly exciting. Sara also wore a dress designed by one of my favorites, Romantique collection by Claire Pettibone.
To top off the beautiful, open space, Rosemary and Finch put together one of my favorite floral displays of the year. Just a little wild and colorful, not overpowering the wood and textures present in the space already. This is an image heavy post because I took so. many. detail photos.
Some friends performed bluegrass songs before the ceremony. Others broke into Ben and Sara’s house to retrieve precious fabric squares. They were to be signed by guests and stitched into a quilt.
Everyone at this wedding danced. The band played a mix of soul and classic songs. Sara changed outfits to a tulle skirt and shiny pink shirt for dancing. I loved that. “How many times am I gonna get to wear a big poofy skirt?” she asked.
We sent them off with tambourines. It was a good time, believe me.
