Elizabeth and Evan’s beautiful farm wedding took place at Wild Goose Farm in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. I have been friends with Elizabeth for nearly 8 years. I first saw her walking around our college campus and fell in love with her long hair and how she wore leotards. Some nights we rented movies from Video Den and then went out, returning to her fairy light bedroom for sleepovers. When I left for graduate school she left videos unreturned and we never paid the late fees. We spent one summer meeting up every week to get McFlurries from McDonalds and cry together eating them in the parking lot.
Her wedding was filled with so much love and so many DIY details. Her grandmother handmade the wedding quilt and cake, and her mother made the fabric deer cake topper. Elizabeth found her dress secondhand and altered it, joking with me that it cost less than Evan’s suit. For a bridesmaid gift, she made soft, patterned kimonos. Evan’s best friend made the wedding gifts, little paper ornaments. The bridesmaids chose their own dresses and created their own bouquets. Evan’s family band was the wedding band.
I was nearly eight months pregnant photographing this wedding, and could not have done it without the assistance of my good friend Renzo Velez.
